Support Worker Job Description

I.       Primary Purpose of  Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide supervision and assistance to adult participants in a Stevens Center program who have developmental disabilities.

100% accuracy is necessary in providing client care, transportation and record documentation.

Error could result in inappropriate treatment to clients and/or funding.

Orientation and training provided for new hires. Verbal instructions are provided daily for special tasks and projects. Written instruction provided to implement new procedures.

The duties and responsibilities involved in this position require ongoing supervision.    Staff will be under the supervision of a QDDP. 

This position requires mental alertness and ability to periodically perform tasks under stressful conditions.  My be required as part of personal care services to lift or transfer individuals.

The employee works in a program. Ordinary work conditions are safe and non-hazardous.

All duties require close visual attention and mental concentration.

Safety factors include welfare of the clients and security of confidentiality for protection of client rights.

This position is required to be flexible in adjusting to changes in the work environment, and must be able to recognize differences between changes in procedures.

III.    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities and Training & Experience Requirements:

A.  Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

To have knowledge of development disabilities, and appropriate behavioral techniques for training clients, of population to be served. Ability to instruct and establish rapport with client and family. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to evaluate client progress observed behavior and communicates observations and recommendations in oral and written form.

B.    1.  Required Minimum Training

                   High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate

2.  Additional Training/ Experience

C.      License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Driver’s License and insurance as required by North Carolina law,
if providing any transportation services

Certification of successful completion of training stated in III B. 1 and 2.
                  

For continued employment the applicant must submit to a periodic criminal background check and healthcare registry check, and driving record check if transporting program participants.  Information disclosed through these checks may result in immediate termination or transfer of employment.
