To Promote Independence

for People with Developmental Disabilities and Dual Diagnosis

The Stevens Center listens to the people it provides service to.  We try to provide support in a way that meets the needs and desires of the person being assisted.

Individuals who receive services through the Stevens Center are encouraged to select the support people that will work with them, how and when support will be provided, and how the budget will be administered.

We help to open doors to brighter futures., where people with developmental disabilities are an active and contributing part of their community.

Respite

Respite gives a periodic break to the primary caregiver.  We provide respite in three ways:

  1. The respite worker can stay at your residence while you leave or you attend to other activities.
  2. The respite worker can accompany the individual with a disability to activities in the community.
  3. The person with a disability can come to the Stevens Center.

Day Habilitation

Day habilitation services are provided based on the needs of the person being supported.  The number of hours provided and the times served are flexible.

Day habilitation services may be a combination of time spent in the community and time spent at the Stevens Center.  Based on the service plan, services may be provided on an individual basis or as part of a group.

Personal Care and Supported Living

Personal care, including meal preparation, eating, bathing, shaving, dressing, using the restroom and accessing the community may be provided.  Training to promote self-care, independent living. mobility skills, self-direction and socialization is also available.

Our goal will always be to provide services based on your needs and preferences.  You decide such things as when you want to get up and go to bed, when you prefer to take a shower or bath and what you eat.

Supported Employment

A support worker will assist an individual in maintaining employment, by providing the daily assistance needed.  This includes personal assistance such as eating or using the restroom, and reminders on how to do the job.

The Stevens Center accepts payment through Medicaid CBS, CAP MR/DD and private pay.  We are licensed by the North Carolina Department of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse.
